When we got our first RV, an old hand me down travel trailer, apps weren’t even a thing. Today there are tons and some of them are great for RV’ers. Need to find where the nearest RV Park or dump station is, there’s an app for that. How about big rig friendly diesel stops, there’s an app for that. What if you need a last-minute place to stop for the night, yep, there’s even an app for that.

Now that we’ve been on the road awhile. I thought it was time to update this list of the best apps for RVers. I’ve added a few RV apps I’ve found we use often and removed a couple we just never needed. Let us know in the comments if you’ve found any we need to check out.

So, without further ado, here are our favorites.

Route planning

Co-pilot is my go to. It includes route planning for tall vehicles, so we avoid low underpasses and bridges where we can’t fit. I planned an entire five-thousand-mile cross-country trip with just this app and paper maps. Just FYI it is $39 for the RV version.

Trucker Path– This one is fairly new to us but I can already see it will be a great addition. It has route planning, point of interest, truck stops and even Walmart locations.

Waze– If you follow us on our social media channels you’ve probably figured out by now that I abhor traffic. I avoid it any time I can. Sometimes however we are stuck heading into a big city or crowded suburban area. Waze lets me know where the traffic is worst, so we can navigate around it. It once saved us two hours in the Los Angeles area. Take note though, Waze will send you down narrow streets and through residential areas, so always check with Copilot to see if you’ll fit.

Weather

The Weather Channel app is a nice tool to have in your planning arsenal. It gives long term projections and is updated in real-time with severe weather alerts and warnings.

Accuweather is another free app that has up to the minute updates and live tracking. You can allow it to always know your location so you get hyper local weather news.

Places to Stay

Allstays– this is a paid app but it’s totally worth it. I always check here first for finding a place to stay. It also includes rest areas, truck stops and RV friendly restaurants and stores.

Campendium with it’s always growing database of camping spots is a must have resource. In this app you’ll find location specific recommendations and very informative reviews of every kind of camping spot from boondocking to luxury RV resorts.

iOverlander is a fast-growing travel app that is great at finding free or cheap places to stay. It works well on mobile in the app and as a standalone website.

For our furry friends

Bring Fido we’ve used this one a lot. It helps you find dog-friendly places. From beaches to restaurants it will give you reviews on the best places Fido is welcome.

Wag– If you’re traveling with a furry friend, Wag can be a life saver. You can put in your current location and find dog sitters and walkers in the area and as a bonus you can hit them up for suggestion on local vets and groomers.

Rover– works just like wag and is great for finding local dog sitters.

Other helpful apps

TSD Logistics if you have a diesel RV or pickup, this is the app that will save you big time on fuel. Signup for their fuel program then get the app. Its totally saved us thousands of dollars. One thing to note is that you must use the truck lanes to get the discount. Oh and please put Wayne Strysko in the referral line.

Sanidumps locates dump stations around the country where you can empty your tanks just about anywhere you might travel. Many of them also have fresh potable water.

Atlas Obscura this app is sure to lead you to some wondrous new places. Caves, museums, large balls of string it has it all.

Factory Tours USA Who doesn’t love a good “How It’s Made” episode? It’s even better in person. Check out how RV’s are made or ice cream or maybe jelly beans are your thing.
