We’ve all seen those RV checklists, there are even apps for that (RV Checklists is a very popular one) They cover everything from what to pack, to departure and setting up camp. There’s a ton of great ones on the interwebs. I really like these from the RV Goddess. But I’ve always found them missing a few key, for me anyway, things. I mean, come on, it is necessary to remember to put down your antennae and make sure the water is disconnected so you don’t knock out water to the whole campground… again. And checklists are a great way to make sure you are ready to roll, but what about after you make sure the jacks are all the way up and the power cord is disconnected. There’s a couple more must do’s for me.
I present to you my top 8 things to add to your RV checklist
- Protect the wine- You definitely don’t want that rolling around, possibly breaking bottles. Maybe someday I’ll have an RV with a wine cellar but in the meantime, this handy bin works great
- Latch all the doors- Yeah, I know you did this on all the other lists but just do it again. For a good reason, see number one
- Put the toilet lid down- You do not want to fish stuff out of there later, trust me.
- Find your phone and the charger- You’ll want those with you, not all the way in the back on the nightstand
- Fill your glass- Get your favorite beverage road ready. Get out your sippy cup and fill it up, or if you forget one, you can DIY a temporary one easy enough.
- Get a snack ready- There’s nothing like trying to make a sandwich in a moving RV. Then having to clean up the mayonnaise off the floor and counter and everywhere else.
- Play DJ- Get your playlist loaded up and ready to go. Face it, nobody wants to hear your rendition of 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall for the next two hours.
And my last item and maybe the most important If you use your phone to navigate
- Screenshot the directions! – You have no idea how bad the reception can be some places, like out in the middle of nowhere, I mean northern Minnesota where all your relatives live.
So those are my must-dos before takeoff, I’d love to see your RV Checklists.
