Fulltime and Missing Family

What’s your biggest fear about going fulltime? I asked this question in our Facebook group today. So far, I’ve only gotten one response, the one I often see, breakdowns.

For me it’s missing Family.

Between Wayne and I we have four grown kids and four young grandchildren. Three of each, and Wayne’s mom live close to us here and our other son and his family as well as Wayne’s siblings live here in California too. My extended family is more spread out. I do have a sister that lives in southern California but most of my family live in Minnesota. Wayne and I have both lived in lots of other places, but all of our adult lives have been here. So the thought of leaving is sometimes hard.

This really hit me the other day when I was out shopping with our youngest. She and I are really close and spend a lot of time together. I got a little sad in the store at the thought of not being able to call her up on a whim and say let’s go to the mall. Of course, she’s a grown up and an awesome one at that, and is making a great life for herself, but she’s still my baby so I hit me in the feels, ya know?

I’m feeling better today though. I’m reassuring myself with the fact that I can fly here to see any of them or they can come to us wherever we are. I don’t know what other fulltimers do but I’m hopeful that it will all work out. I already envision some holidays in cool new places. A little snow for a white Christmas, I would love that!

Speaking of Christmas, it’s only a few weeks away. Yikes!

This week I’m working on a family tree project for my granddaughter Abby. She’s not quite two but I’m hoping she’ll appreciate it in the future and for now, I know she’ll love the sparkles. I plan to make one for the RV too. I have just the spot for it.
